About Cindy
Cindy is a passionate advocate for educational excellence at every age and stage. Since 2018, Cindy has worked tirelessly to generate new channels of communication for families in Ward 3. She continues to be a Trustee of action who is approachable, visible, and creative in engaging community. She ensures the needs of the community are heard at the Board table.
Cindy is dedicated to ensuring that students' needs are met socially, emotionally as well as academically. She supports initiatives that help students thrive and feel confident in their next step. She is a devoted mom of three children who attended K-12 in our division.
For 22 years Cindy has worked for the Fort Garry/St. Norbert Healthy Child Coalition facilitating free programs and providing resources for families. She is an experienced community partner with vital services and organizations in the area.

Why did you decide to run in the 2022 (Winnipeg Civic Election / School Board Election)?
I am a passionate advocate for educational excellence. As a Trustee completing my first term, I feel I have provided valuable contributions to the Division and especially to Ward 3 at a time that will probably be considered one of the most challenging times in recent history. I have worked hard to provide a voice for the concerns and needs of families in our Division. There is important work to be done to ensure students are supported not just academically, but socially and emotionally. I want them to feel confident and ready for their next step.
I’ve always loved the statement, “It is a beautiful thing when a career and a passion come together”. I have thoughtfully and diligently served Pembina Trails and Ward 3 supporting children and their families whether it be in response to email, attending events, or advocating in meetings.
What experience will you bring to compliment your role as (School Trustee)?
As a facilitator, community connector and the program coordinator for the Fort Garry/St. Norbert Healthy Child Coalition I have had the privilege for the last 23 years of helping provide accessible, free programs and resources for the families in south Winnipeg which includes countless families from Pembina Trails School Division. I bring an informed voice to the Board table as my career allows me to work with families on a daily basis that will become part of our school system. At present, none of the current Trustees have this unique opportunity or personal experience.
I believe my professional position creates a collaborative opportunity that can offer proactive planning and communication to the Board and to families entering the Division. Being a Trustee allows me to be a bridge at a grass roots level.
As a long-term resident and parent of three children who were the second generation to attend kindergarten to grade twelve in the division, I am familiar with the division’s history and the challenges we have faced and are facing now. I am also connected to many vital services professionally within the area which can add to the conversation at the Board table and provides opportunity for more effective partnerships.
What are some issues that you would like to stand for in your role as a Trustee, and why are these issues important to you?
I will continue to be visible and approachable looking for unique ways to enhance communication and participation with families concerning their children’s educational needs.
All of these issues are important to me as they support educational excellence. These priorities are also informed based on the needs and feedback I have received from families within the community.
Do you have any other comments regarding your candidacy?
I believe a School Trustee must be a leader who is visible, approachable and accessible as well as an inclusive communicator. This is the kind of School Trustee I am and continue to strive to be for families. The highest quality of education is achieved when we have the strongest, healthiest partnerships between home, school and Board. I believe families appreciate a strong informed voice to represent them, and their concerns are my concerns! Their vote is such an important decision on behalf of their children’s educational journey.
I will continue to be truthful, kind and fierce in support of educational excellence at every age and stage!

- Covid created challenges for all divisions. I want students to thrive, and I support initiatives that help with learning loss and support the emotional social well-being of children. Social malnutrition is real
- With the continuing population growth in the south, the need for new schools is undeniable. We desperately need the schools promised by the Province in Bridgwater Lakes and Prairie Pointe to have a build date. I want kids to be able to go to elementary school in their neighborhoods. This school shortage has created a bussing nightmare.
- Ensuring that there are adequate childcare spaces for families either on-site or through collaboration with other partners
- Initiatives that educate our students with understanding of our history and the importance of reconciliation
- A division wide lunch program that understands the needs of families
- Programs and supports that offer healing to newcomer families who experienced trauma.

Cindy has dedicated her career serving South Winnipeg as Family Program Leader and Community Connector for the Fort Garry/St. Norbert Healthy Child Coalition.
The Fort Garry/St. Norbert Healthy Child Coalition is one of 26 Provincial Coalitions to receive funding from Healthy Child Manitoba. The members of our Coalition are people from the community who are interested in the welfare of our children. Every program funded by the Coalition supports parents in one or more of the following areas: parenting, nutrition and physical health, literacy, and capacity building. These programs are free and geared towards parents/caregivers and children (birth to 6 years of age) to attend together.
